As this is the first attempt ever made to publish a history of ì the family Kuykendall, there was no foundation to build upon, no precedent for guidance, and very little material to begin ì with. It has been a new work from the outset, and all the data ì was yet to be gathered. Coming to the author, as a large part of ì the data did, through correspondence, much of which was written with a pencil, and from people making no literary pretensions, ì the manuscript was often dim and difficult to read, and it would ì be a miracle if there were not errors in dates and names. ì Different persons of the same families or branches often gave ì versions that varied considerably from each other.
