Book 1 of 3, for Grades 2-3
ABOUT THE SERIES: Understanding and decoding analogies are skills transferable to reading comprehension, critical thinking, and creativity. Analogies help students develop the ability to make and appreciate connections between and among a variety of stimuli.
BOOK 1 is divided into the following 5 sections: Part to Whole/ Whole to Part; Synonyms and Antonyms; Cause to Effect/Effect to Cause; Purpose, Use or Function; and Degree. Each section includes a definition of the relationship featured, an example of the type of analogy, and 3 levels of practice, all including both visual and interdisciplinary activities: Practice with Choices, Open-ended Practice, and Create Your Own. The Create-Your-Own portion provides an opportunity for students to create new analogies that fit the construct of the section. Extensions, which provide opportunity for creative word play, are also included. 80 pages.
